Dr. Austin Howard III, M.D.
I believe in safe, effective evidence-based care using the latest in procedural techniques. I believe in treating the patient as I would treat my family or myself. I am particularly interested in ablation techniques with zero fluoroscopy, minimizing radiation exposure for the patient. My goal with every patient is to either make them feel better or help them live longer.
I specialize in cardiac electrophysiology. I am originally from Mississippi where I went to college and medical school. I did my internal medicine training in Chapel Hill at the University of North Carolina where I was a chief resident. I did my cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology training at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston where I was a chief fellow. I deal with heart rhythm and heart rhythm disturbances using ablation and cardiovascular implantable electronic devices including pacemakers, defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders.
I became drawn to electrophysiology during my general cardiology training because of the rapid technological advancement in this field and the increasing ability to meet the needs of those with arrhythmias. This field is a perfect marriage of basic science, procedural complexity, and clinical medicine.
